Fans finanzieren kommendes Doppelalbum

Um die Produktionskosten für seine nächste Platte zu decken, setzt Patrick Wolf auf ein alternatives Finanzierungskonzept. Anteile zu 10 £ pro Stück kann man auf dem Portal Bandstocks erwerben und so das für Frühling geplante Doppelalbum "Battle" in trockene Tücher bringen. Ganz neu ist dieses Konzept natürlich nicht, denn so oder so ähnlich haben das auch schon Bands wie Idlewild oder Angelika Express getan, aber neben der finanziellen Notwendigkeit sieht Patrick Wolf noch mehr darin:

"It's the beginning of the future for artists and musicians in the music industry. There's no way we can rely on conglomerate, corporate companies anymore. [...] Basically, you can invest in the finishing of the album and the production of it, and you get a share in the album. So you almost become part of the record company, like a co-owner of the album."

Zu den Vorteilen für die Anteilseigner zählen zum Beispiel exklusive Konzertkarten und limitierte Editionen des Albums.

Die Platte sei anfangs als thematisch düster geplant worden: "A dark and solipsistic record with no hope at the end - very much how I felt", so der Künstler. Einer Wendung in seinem Privatleben sei Dank, dürfte sie aber nun doch eine eher heitere Note bekommen: "Something fantastic happened just as I was about to start that journey and I had all these songs to record - I fell in love." Das Ergebnis: "One disc is a pure nihilistic battle record, and the second is battles of love." Erscheinen wird das gute Stück bei Wolfs eigens gegründetem Label Bloody Chamber Music.
