"Ein besseres Album ist nicht möglich!"

Zwischen Nostalgie und zu erwartender Euphorie pendelten Metallica in einem Interview mit dem britischen Kerrang!-Magazin. Wie berichtet soll das neue Metallica-Album "Death Magnetic" wieder härter werden und sich deutlich an der erfolgreichen Thrash-Vergangenheit orientieren. Selbiges war auch schon im Vorfeld zum Vorgänger "St. Anger" zu hören. Vom Resultat waren dann einige Fans sichtlich enttäuscht, manch einer aber über die vermeintliche Weiterentwicklung gar nicht unglücklich.

Doch Metallica haben sich diesmal mehr vorgenommen. "Death Magnetic" soll wieder auf ganzer Linie zünden und nicht einfach nur zur bloßen Selbstkopie werden, so Hetfield: "We understand the importance of staying relevant. We understand the importance of playing new songs. We understand how important it is not to become a nostalgia act. No one in the band wants us to be that. [Metallica] still has something to offer. No matter what the public thinks, as a band we will do what we have to do. We always have."

Auch Lars Ulrich wehrt sich gegen nostalgische Anflüge, er versichert, dass "Death Magnetic" das Beste ist, was sie mit Können und Mittel produzieren konnten: "I can honestly say that this album is the best album we could possibly have made. Can I guarantee that people will like it as much as they like our older albums? No, I can't; I can't offer any guarantees. But I promise you that we could not have made a better album."
