Neues Video, no cameras at all

Radiohead sind arty, manchmal fancy und hin und wieder innovativ. Zurzeit sind sie wieder Letzteres und nutzen eine vollkommen hochgezüchtete Lasertechnologie für ihr neues Musikvideo "House Of Cards" von "In Rainbows".

Konventionelle Musikvideos mit konventionellen Kameras gehören ab jetzt der Vergangenheit an, so will es Thom Yorke und kreiert mit James Frost als Produzenten ein absolutes Meisterwerk, das viel näher am T 1000 und R2-D2 ist, als an verspielten Klebecollagen im Videoformat, wie sie zurzeit in allen Flimmerkisten und Streams zu sichten sind. "House Of Cards" - und jetzt wirds interessant - wurde nämlich komplett ohne archaische Kameras gedreht. Im Gegensatz dazu wurden hyperoptische Multimedia-Technologien namens "Geometric Informatics" und das "Velodyne Lidar-System" benutzt. Eine kurze Erklärung dazu, die jedoch mehr verklärt als erklärt:

"The Geometric Informatics scanning system employs structured light to capture detailed 3D images at close proximity, and was used to render the performances of Radiohead's Thom Yorke, the female lead, and several partygoers. The Velodyne Lidar system uses multiple lasers to capture large environments in 3D, in this case 64 lasers rotating and shooting in a 360 degree radius 900 times per minute, capturing all of the exterior scenes and wide party shots."

Wem das jetzt die Nackenhaare kräuselt, der sollte sich die Stills des bisher unveröffentlichten Videos zu "House Of Cards" anschauen und staunen. Doch letztlich bleibt viel mehr als staunen: selber machen, denn Radiohead werden Teile der Dateien zum Video als freien Download für etwaige Fan-Experimente zur Verfügung stellen. Zurück in die Zukunft mit Radiohead. Zum Abschluss unterhält sich Thom Yorke noch mit HAL:

"I always like the idea of using technology in a way that it wasn't meant to be used, the struggle to get your head round what you can do with it. I liked the idea of making a video of human beings and real life and time without using any cameras, just lasers, so there are just mathematical points-- and how strangely emotional it ended up being."
