Neues Album als Gratis-Download

Sind die Plattenfirmen die Verlierer des Tages? Nachdem bereits die Millionen-Seller Radiohead heute bekannt gaben, ihr neues Album ohne Label im Rücken zu veröffentlichen, ziehen The Charlatans nach. Das noch unbetitelte Album ist für den Januar anvisiert und wird dann kostenlos als Download auf der Website der Radiostation XFM erhältlich sein. Die Single 'You Cross My Path' steht bereits ab dem 22. Oktober bereit.

Auf die Frage, weshalb die Band nun ohne ein Label agiere, sagte Sänger Tim Burgess: \\"We want 'the people' to own the music and we want the artist, i.e. us, to own the copyright. Why let a record company get in the way of people getting the music?\\". Im Hintergrund wacht Ex-Creation-Boss Alan McGee über das ganze Unternehmen und auch er hatte ein paar weise Worte für uns übrig: \\"Why would you volunteer to join the army for 10 years unless you had no choice? Record companies are kind of like the army; very regulated. The band will get paid by more people coming to gigs, buying merchandise, publishing and synch fees. I believe it’s the future business model!\\".
