Lauter und ein bisschen dissonant

\\\"A sampling of the most uptempo, upbeat Death Cab songs as well as some of our saddest\\\", so umreißt Bassist Nick Harmer gegenüber billboard.com das kommende Album seiner Band Death Cab For Cutie, den Nachfolger des überaus erfolgreichen Majordebüts 'Plans' von 2005. Mehr noch, ein fast radikaler Stilwechsel soll da in der Zwischenzeit stattgefunden haben. Gut möglich, so deutet Gitarrist Chris Walla - mittlerweile auch endlich mit seinem Soloalbum 'Field Manual' (US-VÖ, Ende Januar über Barsuk) fertig - dass das noch unbetitelte Album seiner Hauptband den ein oder anderen Fan ein wenig verstören wird: \\\"[It's] really weird. It's really, really good, I think, but it's totally a curve ball, and I think it's gonna be a really polarizing record. But I'm really excited about it. It's really got some teeth. The landscape of the thing is way, way more lunar than the urban meadow sort of thing that has been happening for the last couple of records.\\\" Lauer sol les ausgefallen sein, verrät er noch, und \\\"more dissonant - more dissonant and ... I think abrasive would be a good word to use.\\\"

So nach und nach sickern also erste Infos über das lang erwartete neue Werk der Band aus dem US-Staat Washington durch, das wohl im Mai über Atlantic (Warner) erscheinen wird. Zum Beispiel die, dass das Quartett mit dem neun Minuten langen Jam 'I Will Possess Your Heart' seine Grenzen weiter auslotet. Ein Track, über den Nick Harmer sagt: \\\"We hit our stride on that song. We looked at the habitual things we've done in the past and tried to move beyond them.\\\" 'Bixby Canyon Bridge' wird wohl der Opener werden, ein weiterer Song trägt den Titel 'The Ice Is Getting Thinner', laut Harmer ein \\\"Herzensbrecher\\\": \\\"It's a really pretty, electric guitar song ... it's somber like [the last album's] 'Brothers on a Hotel Bed.'\\\"

Bleiben zwei Fragen: Macht es auf Grund des fast zeitgleichen Releases des Walla-Soloalbums sowie des nächsten DCFC-Wurfs nicht Sinn, dass Walla bei demnächst anstehenden Live-Dates den Opener gibt? Walla dazu: \\\"I don't think it would be a very good idea, ultimately, if for no other reason than that's a long time for any one person to be on stage.\\\" Bandkopf Ben Gibbard, so hört man, sei da anderer Meinung und regelrecht angetan von der Idee. Und die letzte Frage: Wäre es, wo wir gerade bei Gibbard angelangt sind, nicht auch mal wieder Zeit für ein neues Album seines Projekts The Postal Service?
