In einem Interview mit BBC 6 Music haben sich Radiohead erstmals detailliert zum Aufsehen erregenden Release von 'In Rainbows' geäußert. Dabei kam raus, dass die Idee gar nicht so neu war, wie man glauben mag. Thom Yorke hatte exakt dasselbe Verfahren, eine vorerst reine Internet-Veröffentlichung, bereits für sein 2006er-Solodebüt 'The Eraser' geplant.

\\\\"I still wanted to do it on 'The Eraser,' but it was too difficult, every record that we have done for ages has been leaked, and why not just leak the bloody thing yourself, why let someone else nick it and get it wrong and get the wrong version - do it yourself\\\\", sagte er zu der Grundidee. Damit das Ganze bei 'In Rainbows' klappen konnte, musste es lange absolut geheim gehalten werden: \\\\"We weren't allowed to have copies in the house. We had to destroy all copies, none in cars, you listen to it once and then you would have to give it back or erase it.\\\\"

Auf die augenzwinkernde Frage, wieviel er selbst für den Download bezahlt habe, sagte Yorke: \\\\"I've downloaded it for nothing obviously, I thought it would be silly to pay money, I just swap it from pocket to the other!\\\\"
