'Libertad' kommt im Juli

Das neue Album 'Libertad' von Velvet Revolver wurde verschoben. War der US-Release ursprünglich für den 29. Mai angepeilt, wartet man nun lieber noch fünf Wochen bis zum 3. Juli. Die Art, wie die erste Single 'She Builds Quick Machines' ausgewählt wurde, mag Duff McKagan zwar nicht gefallen haben, aber man hat sich dann doch gebeugt: \\\"[Our label] RCA did a bunch of research on what the first single should be. I'm pretty anti that stuff. The band had something they wanted to go with, but RCA just kept coming with it. So we decided, it's fine. It's a great f*ckin' rock song. It has a kick-ass guitar riff, a great chorus, a really big bridge and a great Slash solo.\\\"

Und da fängt's erst an mit den Komplikationen, denn: \\\"It was really, really tough getting us back together into a place where our headspace was right to be able to start a new record. We were all pretty fragmented... It took us a while to get back to where we were feeling good, and we finally got that back last July and August.\\\" Danach kamen dann auch noch Schwierigkeiten mit dem Produzenten des Albums, der ursprünglich gebuchte Rick Rubin hatte die Band zu sehr verunsichert, weiß Duff zu berichten: \\\"At that point, we had 30 songs. He came down the second week of September and said, 'Okay great guys, now write some more songs.' So we wrote more songs. Another month later, he was like, 'Okay great, write some more songs.' We got up to 50 songs! When somebody tells you to write more songs, you start thinking, 'Well, all of our sh*t sucks.' It's not a good place for a band like us to be at.\\\" Süß, dass eine Band, die aus so erfahrenen Rocksäuen besteht, sich noch so verunsichern lässt. Man hat sich dann lieber für Brendan O'Brien entschieden, der die Band dazu ermutigte, mehr aus ihren vorhandenen Stücken zu holen, statt nach neuen zu verlangen.

Noch kann man bei Live-Shows auf Stücke der alten Bands Guns N' Roses und Stone Temple Pilots zählen, \\\"I don't know whether we'll do it the whole tour or once in awhile,\\\" sagt Duff, \\\"but I know people like to hear them and sometimes we really like to play them. It's songs we wrote, so why not?\\\" Das wird aber höchstens bis Ende des Jahres andauern, sagt andererseits Slash. Der Gitarristenheld würde vorziehen, stattdessen einfach ein paar Gigs der wiedervereinten Guns N' Roses (respektive Stone Temple Pilots) zu spielen. \\\"I would say it would be a good idea to get the original Stone Temple Pilots and the original Guns N' Roses just to do a couple of shows for the fun of it.\\\"
