Solo für zwei?

Tracey Thorn, die Sängerin, die viele durch ihre Massive Attack-Kollaborationen (z.B. die Tracks 'Protection' und 'Better Things'), die meisten aber vermutlich durch ihr Projekt Everything But The Girl kennen, war lange von der Bildfläche verschwunden. Mit ihrem (Everything But The Girl-)Partner Ben Watt und ihren drei Kindern schien sie das Familienleben zu genießen und außer der Zusammenarbeit mit dem deutschen Elektro-Duo Tiefschwarz ('Damage', auf dem Album 'Eat Books') vor zwei Jahren, ist es gelinde gesagt ruhig geblieben, zumal seit dem letzten Everything But The Girl-Album 'Temparamental' von 1999.

Mit 'Out Of The Woods' erscheint im April über Virgin / EMI aber nun doch wieder ein Soloalbum, genau genommen das zweite seit dem 1982er Minialbum 'A Distant Shore'. \\\"When I started this album, I was thinking, 'Well, alright, I want to make a quirky little record, a little bit acoustic, a little bit dance'\\\", verrät sie dem amerikanischen Magazin Billboard. \\\"I also thought I was going to do a lot of covers, because I hadn't written anything in a long time. But once I started, I found myself writing more songs and collaborating with people. When the record was finished, I was quite startled. I thought, 'Wow, I made a pop record without really meaning to.'\\\"

Ihr Ehemann und EBTG-Partner Watt ist aber nicht an dem Album beteiligt. \\\"There is an enormous amount of pressure when you live and work together,\\\" so Thorn weiter. \\\"We did that for a lot of years, and we made it work. Now, we have this successful and wonderful balance that works very well. Plus, with this record, I felt I had something to prove to myself, that I needed to assert myself. For me, the danger of working with Ben was that he hadn't had a break from music. I think he might have taken the idea of the record and run with it, and I would have been in the slow lane trying to catch up.\\\"

Gleichsam schließt sie aber eine Rückkehr unter dem Moniker Everything But The Girl auch nicht aus, im Gegenteil: \\\"Yeah, we talk about such things. But I know it won't happen until we have a really strong idea of what we want to do. We could do it tomorrow, really, but we'd need a reason.\\\" Vielleicht beschwingt das neue Soloalbum also nun auch wieder die Zusammenarbeit mit dem Ehemann.

Die erste Single 'It's All True' erscheint bereits am 16.03.
