Vive la Liberté! Es lebe das Internet! Sicher, das ist jetzt nicht unbedingt das allerneueste, aber langsam kommen immer mehr Leute dahinter, auch die Künstler. Gerade im HipHop scheint man ja besonders in Sorge zu sein, was den Diebstahl von Platten angeht, allerdings geht es hier dazu auch um Hardware. Beim CD-Händler meines Vertrauens erkennt man alle HipHop Platten daran, dass sie nur mit kopierten Covern im Regal stehen.

Talib Kweli ist ja ziemlich Indie für HipHop-Verhältnisse, was eigentlich dagegen spricht, dass seine Cover öfter geklaut werden, als die von irgendeiner Indie-Band. Trotzdem: Das neue Album kommt konsequent mit Cover zum Selbstausdrucken, was ja kaum anders als eine Kopie ist. Denn – Tadaaa! – es ist ein Gratisdownload geworden! Kwelis Zusammenarbeit mit Madlib scheint offenbar noch weit fruchtbarer gewesen zu sein, als die Tracks, die auf sein Album 'Ear Drum' kommen, denn jetzt erscheint über die Homepage von Madlibs Label Stones Throw 'Liberation' mit 9 Songs und Cover.

Das kann sich doch sehen lassen, zumal es sich nicht um einen bloßen Appetizer auf Kwelis Album handelt, das einen völlig anderen Sound haben wird. 'Liberation' ist vielmehr ein Dankeschön an alle Fans und zugleich ein bewußtes Erfüllen einer bestimmten Erwartungshaltung: \\"This album is a straight ahead, sample driven hiphop record, from two of the best doing it. Some fans will say this is the sound they want to hear from me all the time. If so, congratulations, you got your wish. However, do not use this to speculate what eardrum will sound like. It is a different project with different influences.\\"
