Metal war gestern. Zumindest im Hause Ash. Nachdem das 2004er Album 'Meltdown' ein seltsamer Bastard aus Metal, Rock und Gitarrenpop geworden ist, sind plötzlich wieder Referenzen im Spiel, die etwas nahe liegender klingen: Bob Dylan, Foo Fighters, Beck, und – ähem – Motown. Im kommenden Jahr meldet sich das Ash-Original-Trio Wheeler, Hamilton, McMurray nun mit neuem Album zurück, während Charlotte Hatherly ihre Solo-Karriere vorantreiben will.

Schon im Juni streute Tim Wheeler die ersten vagen Informationen (nämlich hier), jetzt wurde Marc Hamilton im NME-Interview ein wenig konkreter. Vierzehn Songs habe man inzwischen im Band-eigenen Manhattan-Studio aufgenommen. 'Girl Who Can’t Be Owned', momentan heißer Kandidat für den Opening Track, sei \\\\"a Foo Fighers track, with a Dylan-esque melody\\\\". 'Suicide Girls' sei \\\\"more in the vein of the earlier classic Ash.\\\\" Die Motown-Einflüsse gibt's dann angeblich bei 'Shadows' – \\\\"a slower number with a bit of a retro-vibe. The bass line is a bit of Motown in the verses and it's got pretty heavy lyrics about the effects of breaking up\\\\". Für den Celebrity-Bonus sorgt 'Polaris': \\\\"Tim wrote the main hook line on a piano at U2’s villa in the south of France. The original dictaphone recording is also used in the intro of the track. There's an underlining U2 vibe to the overall song\\\\". Ob dass dann auch einen dieser tollen Sticker gibt? CONTAINS HOOKS WRITTEN IN ON OF THE VILLAS OF U2, oder so?

Von U2 zu R.E.M. ist's ja auch nicht so weit, was wohl der Grund ist, warum ein Song 'End Of The World' heißt. Und der klingt so: \\\\"There's quite a mash of styles, instruments and samples on 'End of the World' which gives it a Flaming Lips or Beck feel\\\\". Fans konnten kürzlich schon den Track 'What Is The Meaning' live zu hören bekommen. Hamilton nannte ihn \\\\"a pretty straight-up fast punk rock track with personal and dramatic vocals. Tim sings in a state of confusion asking for answers to what is going on in his life, it's kind of autobiographical\\\\". Trotzdem kann noch viel passieren: \\\\"The tracks are still developing in the studio and all of these songs will not make the album.\\\\" Außerdem arbeite man immer noch an neuen Tracks.
