Ob die 1980 in Athens, Georgia gegründete Band wohl auch so erfolgreich gewesen wäre, wenn sich ihre Mitglieder damals, als sie auf Namenssuche ein Wörterbuch durchblätterten, für Negro Eyes, Slut Bank oder Cans Of Piss entschieden hätten? Man weiß es nicht. Doch auch als R.E.M. führte der Weg nicht umgehend zu einem dicken Majorlabel-Deal sondern über das International Record Syndicate, das Label, das man abgekürzt auch deshalb mit der obersten Steuerbehörde der Vereinigten Staaten, dem Internal Revenue Service, verwechseln kann, weil es die Band schon damals auf eine goldene Schallplatte brachte.

Zwar wurden diese Anfangstage der Band bereits 1988 mit dem letzten Release für I.R.S., einer Compilation namens \"Eponymous\" zusammengefasst, dennoch hat sich jetzt \"And I Feel Fine\" das Ziel gesetzt, das ganze eine Nummer größer anzugehen und mit noch einigen Tracks mehr um die Ecke zu kommen. Die Version mit Bonus-CD bringt es gar auf verrückte 42, zum Teil rare Songs. Ebenfalls am 12. September erscheint eine DVD mit dem Titel \"When The Light Is Mine\", auf der Musikvideos und TV-Auftritte aus der Zeit zwischen 1982 und 1987 zusammengefasst sind.
